Who the Aeron drafting chair is for
This is a true architect stool for the drafting table. It also suits designers and engineers at tall work surfaces, lab technicians at bench height, and anyone with a standing desk who still wants to sit properly for part of the day.
At height, the foot ring does the work a floor normally does, and the pivoting arms can be set to your work surface so your shoulders and neck stay relaxed during detailed work.
How we rebuild each stool
Every one of our Aeron stools is completely disassembled so we can inspect it and replace high-wear components as needed: the gas cylinder, foot ring, lumbar support, armrests and casters.
Every part is deep cleaned and sanitized, and the Pellicle mesh is checked for tension and wear. After reassembly we test every adjustment, including the tall cylinder that holds your height, to factory standard. Setup and sizing videos are further down this page.
How much is an Aeron stool? Our Classic next to a new one
An Aeron Classic drafting stool with a stainless steel foot ring, for under $700.
Herman Miller no longer makes the Aeron Classic stool, so the comparison uses its current Aeron Stool.
Herman Miller sells its new Aeron Stool in two versions, counter height and bar height. This stool's seat runs from 24" to 35", so one stool covers both ranges.
Set up your Aeron drafting stool
Will a drafting stool fit your work surface?
A simple rule works for most people: the work surface should sit about 10 to 12 inches above the seat. With a 24" to 35" seat, this stool suits surfaces from roughly 34" to 47" high.

Where it works
- Kitchen and shop counters, usually about 36" high
- Drafting tables and lab benches
- Bar-height tables, usually about 42" high
- Sit-stand desks at a half-raised position
Where it does not
A standard 29" to 30" desk is too low: even at its lowest, your knees would hit the underside of the desktop. For a regular desk, choose the Aeron Classic chair instead.
Already have an Aeron Classic?
You can convert your Aeron Classic into a drafting stool yourself. Our Aeron stool cylinder, the same tall cylinder this stool stands on, and a 19-inch foot ring together make an Aeron stool conversion kit. At the higher range, the height cable and knob kit keeps the height control working properly, and our conversion guide walks you through the swap.
Setting it up well
Raise the seat until your elbows sit at or just above the height of the work surface. Then move the foot ring up or down until your knees bend comfortably with both feet on the ring.

Questions about the Aeron drafting stool
Classic drafting stool or Remastered stool?
They work the same way at height. The Classic stool uses the Classic's one-tension Pellicle mesh and costs less; the Aeron Remastered stool adds the zoned 8Z Pellicle mesh and the newer arms.
Can I use this stool at a regular desk?
No. Its lowest seat height is 24", which is too high for a 29" to 30" desk. The height guide above shows which work surfaces it suits.
Which size should I order?
Size B fits most users from about 5'3" to 6'5". Size A accommodates smaller body types, and Size C provides additional room for larger frames. If you are unsure, the size video above walks through all three.
What warranty comes with the drafting stool?
It comes with a 5-year mechanical warranty. We stand behind our build quality. A used stool bought second-hand usually has no warranty at all, which leaves any repair at your own risk.
Do you ship the drafting stool outside the US?
Yes. We deliver it at no charge within the contiguous US, and international buyers get the best shipping rates available, worked out at checkout.
