Is any tool needed to fit it, or to firm it up later?
Fitting it takes the small key packed with it, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to drill; the video above walks through it. Later on, the side knobs are designed to be hand-tightened. If you feel the headrest becoming loose after daily use, simply tighten these knobs by hand, no tools required.
What is the internal spring for?
The internal spring is a key upgrade to improve the lifespan of the headrest, which is why every Embody headrest we make has one.
Will installing it damage my chair or void the Herman Miller warranty?
No. We use a non-invasive clamping system with protective padding. It leaves no marks on the spine and does not void your Herman Miller warranty, because it neither damages nor alters the chair: nothing is drilled, and the headrest can be removed at any time. In the US, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(c)) also generally does not allow a manufacturer to make its warranty depend on using only its own branded accessories.

Pick the fabric name on your chair's label and the frame color that matches your chair; our choices use the names Herman Miller gives Embody fabrics. Black Sync and Black Balance come on the black frame only. If you are unsure, send us a photo of the label through our contact page.
What warranty does it have?
We stand behind our quality. Our headrest is fully covered against defects for 2 full years. Damage from accidents and normal wear fall outside it; the full terms are on our warranty page.
