Seat Mesh Replacement for Herman Miller Aeron Classic Chairs by OfficeLogixShop
If your Aeron seat mesh is torn, frayed at the edge or sagging, but the plastic seat frame underneath is still in one piece, this is the part you need. It's a Herman Miller Aeron mesh replacement for the Aeron Classic (V1) in Size B or Size C, and it brings the seat's support back for a fraction of the cost of a whole new seat: about $70 to $94 less than our full seat pan, depending on size and color.
That comparison is with our own seat pan, a refurbished frame fitted with new OfficeLogixShop mesh; a factory-new seat costs more again.
Made for
- The Herman Miller Aeron Classic (V1) in Size B (two dots) and Size C (three dots).
Won't fit
- An Aeron Size A (one dot) or any Aeron Remastered. For a Remastered, use our Remastered seat mesh; the two generations use different seat parts.
For a torn backrest, see our back mesh replacement for the Aeron Classic.

⚠️ IMPORTANT INSTALLATION INFORMATION ⚠️
Please read this section carefully before purchasing:
Our latest mesh design no longer includes predrilled holes. This change allows the mesh's natural elasticity to deliver superior tension and durability once installed. To simplify the installation process, we've created a detailed step by step video guide.
What you need to know:
- You will need a drill gun to create the mounting holes
- If your mesh arrives with a few predrilled holes, please disregard them and follow the video instructions
- Due to the mesh's tension, installation may require some pressure. Having a second person help is recommended
- Begin by aligning the mesh using the center notch for easier placement
If the mesh feels loose after installation
The seat mesh may feel slightly loose after installation due to its natural elasticity and the installation method. This is normal and can be corrected without removing the seat or mesh.
- Use a heat gun on a low setting, or use an iron with a thin cloth between the iron and the mesh
- Move the heat source slowly and evenly across the mesh
- Allow the mesh to cool so the material sets
IMPORTANT: Once re-tightened, the mesh becomes firm and supportive. We design the mesh with a little give to make installation easier, since an overly tight mesh can be very difficult to install. Not every seat will require this step, but there is a small chance it may be needed.
When Should You Do a Herman Miller Aeron Seat Mesh Replacement?
A Herman Miller seat mesh replacement is the right call when the seat itself has failed but the frame hasn't. The usual signs:
- A tear or a hole anywhere in the seat.
- The edge of the mesh fraying or pulling away where it meets the frame.
- A seat that has gone slack, so you sink toward the frame and feel it under your legs.
A torn seat doesn't mean the chair is finished, even on an Aeron that has been in daily use for 20 years. On an Aeron Classic, the frame, the tilt and the back usually have years left, so a new mesh is the cheapest way to get the whole chair back to work.
Seat Mesh Installation Videos for the Aeron Classic
Each Aeron replacement mesh size has its own video. Find your size first, then watch the matching one.
Match Your Classic Aeron With a Headrest
Want the seat and the headrest to match? Our patented headrest for the Aeron Classic is made in all four of this mesh's colors (3DO1 Black, 3DO3 Nickel Titanium, blue and red), so a blue or red seat can have a headrest to go with it. It clips on without tools.

Made by Aeron Chair Specialists
Since 2015, our Ohio shop has renewed thousands of chairs, Aerons among them, so a Herman Miller mesh replacement is everyday work for us. This premium OfficeLogix mesh comes out of that experience. It's made from durable, breathable, high-quality material and engineered for a perfect fit on Size B and Size C Classic frames, so a torn seat gets top-tier support back for long work hours at an affordable price. From a single home office to a business with a room full of Aerons, it's the ideal way to extend the life of an ergonomic investment.
We stand behind our quality. This seat mesh is covered against tearing and defects for 2 full years.
Our Aeron chair parts collection has every spare part we carry for this chair, and we make parts for the Mirra and Embody too.
Seat Mesh Replacement vs Full Seat Pan Replacement for the Aeron Classic
People searching for a Herman Miller Aeron seat replacement often need less than they think. Before you order, check whether you need another part instead of, or alongside, new seat mesh:
The plastic seat frame is cracked or a mounting tab has snapped
New mesh can't hold on a broken frame. You need our seat pan with new mesh, which arrives ready to bolt on.
You feel a hard edge under your thighs
That's usually the foam cushion at the front of the seat breaking down, not the mesh. A new seat foam insert brings the soft front edge back, and it's easiest to fit while the seat is apart for its new mesh. That insert fits Sizes A and B; for a Size C seat, use our Size C seat foam insert.
Got an Aeron Remastered?
This mesh is made for the Classic seat only. Use our Aeron Remastered seat mesh instead, or the Remastered seat pan with mesh if the frame is damaged too.
How to Install Herman Miller Aeron Replacement Seat Mesh
Here's the short version of a clear, guided job that needs only basic tools. The videos above show the job for your size.
- Take the seat off the chair by removing the seat bolts and seat link bolts on both sides (the Size C video shows how), then remove the screws around the outline of the seat and lift the old mesh away.
- Position the new mesh on the frame as shown in the video.
- Drill the mounting holes where the video shows, then fit the mesh and screw it down. Work your way around the seat to keep the tension even across the mesh (the Size B video shows how), and snug each screw down without overtightening, so it doesn't strip the plastic frame.
- Put the seat back on the chair and check the tension and the tilt before you sit down for the day.
Seat Mesh Replacement for the Aeron Classic: Your Questions
How do I know if I need Size B or Size C Aeron seat mesh?
Check the dots located on the upper back lip of your Aeron chair: 1 dot = Size A (small), 2 dots = Size B (medium), 3 dots = Size C (large). We make this mesh in B and C, and the sizing video above points to the exact spot.
Should I replace only the Aeron seat mesh or the full seat pan?
Only the mesh, if the frame is sound. That's the cheaper repair by about $70 to $94. If the frame is cracked or a tab has snapped, the mesh has nothing solid to hold on to, so go for the full seat pan. That saving is measured against our own refurbished seat pan with new mesh.
Do I need tools to install the Aeron seat mesh replacement?
Yes: a drill to make the mounting holes, since the mesh comes without them, a screwdriver for the screws around the seat, and a hex bit for the bolts that hold the seat on the chair. For the screws, #8 x 5/8" or M4-16 is what our video recommends; they grip well without damaging the seat frame. Many buyers also keep a few spring clamps on hand to hold the mesh in the frame's groove while they work.
Why does the replacement mesh not have predrilled holes?
Because it installs better without them: leaving the holes out lets the mesh's natural elasticity deliver superior tension and durability once it's on your frame. The video shows where to drill each hole.
Can I install the Herman Miller replacement seat mesh myself?
Yes, with the video for your size and a helper for the stretch. Replacing just the mesh on an Aeron chair takes patience more than special skill, and stretching the mesh over the frame is the part to give yourself time for. Buyers who have done it report anything from 10 to 15 minutes to a couple of hours.
What should I do if the Aeron seat mesh feels loose after installation?
Warm it and let it cool, following the heat step in the installation note at the top of this page. Once the mesh cools it sets to a factory-tight tension, and the seat stays on the chair the whole time.
Is this the same as the original Aeron Pellicle?
Pellicle is Herman Miller's name for the Aeron's woven suspension, the part many owners simply call the seat fabric or bottom mesh. This is aftermarket replacement mesh, made by OfficeLogixShop to match the look, feel and tension of the original seat, with the same breathable airflow and even weight distribution.
Will it fit my Aeron Remastered?
No. The Classic and the Remastered use different seat parts, and this mesh is for the Classic only. If you are not sure which one you have, look under the seat: the big, bulky mechanism is the Classic's. For a Remastered, use our Aeron Remastered seat mesh.
Is it worth replacing my seat mesh?
Almost always. A torn mesh defeats the whole point of an ergonomic office chair, and replacing it restores the support and keeps the chair looking professional while the rest of the Aeron keeps going.
Is there a headrest to match my seat mesh color?
Yes. The headrest we make for the Aeron Classic is offered in all four of these mesh colors, blue and red included.
