Replicas copy the look, but the frame, the Pixelated Support and the BackFit mechanism on this chair are Herman Miller's own. The parts we replace during renewal, such as the fabric, arm pads, cylinder and casters, may be non-OEM, as the note at the top of our description says.
Used or renewed Embody: what is the difference?
A used Embody bought second-hand comes as it is, with whatever wear its fabric has, and Herman Miller's warranty does not pass to you: it extends only to the original buyer of a new chair. A renewed Embody from us has been through our 3-step renewal, with new fabric and wear parts, and comes with our 5-year mechanical warranty.
Will one Embody size fit me?
Yes, for most adults. Unlike the Aeron, which comes in sizes A, B and C, the Embody is a one-size-fits-all chair: its Pixelated Support and BackFit adjustment let it contour to a very wide range of body types and heights, from roughly 5'2" to 6'4". It is tested to 300 lbs.
Does the Embody come with a headrest?
Not from the factory: Herman Miller makes the Embody without one. Our own OfficeLogixShop headrest for the Embody is sold on its own, and if you would like chair and headrest together from day one, our exclusive saving bundle is cheaper than buying the chair and headrest one at a time.
What is BackFit, and which way do I turn it?
BackFit is the knob at the rear right of the chair. It aligns the backrest with the natural curve of your spine: turn it clockwise to flatten the back for a more upright posture, or counterclockwise to rotate the backrest rearward so it curves more, then fine-tune it to your whole back.
How do I adjust the Embody seat depth?
Take your weight off the front of the seat and lift the handles on both sides of the front edge. Slide the seat forward or back, then lower the handles to lock it, leaving about three fingers of space behind your knees.
Do the Embody arms adjust in width as well as height?
Yes. Press the button under each arm pad to raise or lower it. For width, hold the arm pad with both hands and pull it in or push it out. Set both sides so your elbows line up under your shoulders.
Embody or Steelcase Leap V2: which should I buy?
Both come renewed from us with a 5-year mechanical warranty. The Embody adapts to you on its own, with Pixelated Support and BackFit in one size. The Leap V2 gives you more manual control: a LiveBack backrest with adjustable lumbar support, 4D arms (height, width, depth and pivot) and a 400 lb rating. If you want a chair that follows your movements, choose the Embody; if you like to dial in every setting and spend less, look at our renewed Steelcase Leap V2.
