Swapping Leap V2 seat cushions: one person, no special tools
- Slide the seat all the way back, flip the chair, press the stopper button under the seat with the long screwdriver and slide the seat off its rails.
- Remove the screws on the bottom, lift off the plastic cover and take out the screws under it.
- Unclip the seat height adjustment mechanism with care and keep the metal bracket that sits beneath it.
- Set the bracket into the new seat, hook the mechanism into its clips, then put the cover back on and tighten every screw.
- Check that the rails on the chair are in place and slide the new seat on.

Leap V1 or Leap V2: how can I tell which one I have?
The Leap V2 has a taller, more flexible back with a thinner cushion that makes the lumbar support more pronounced, 4D armrests that slide forward and back, and a lighter plastic base. The V1 has a shorter, thicker back, heavier steel arms and base, and a distinctive adjustable seat edge. V1 replacement parts are largely discontinued. How easy is it to replace the Steelcase Leap V2 seat?

Is the fabric on the replacement seat new or refurbished?
Brand new. The fabric is made by OfficeLogixShop specifically for the Leap V2 seat, and the foam under it is new as well. Nothing is used or simply cleaned: you get a completely fresh product straight out of the box.
Is it more cost effective to replace the seat or buy a new chair?

What do I reuse from my old Leap V2 seat?
Everything fixed under the old seat moves across: the plastic covers, the metal bracket, the seat height adjustment mechanism and the screws. Keep them together as you take the old seat apart. In the replacement video, the mechanism and the bracket come off at about 1:38 and go into the new seat at about 2:06. Only the old cushion itself is left over.
Will the new seat feel different from my old one?
Yes, and in the right direction: new foam is fuller and firmer than a cushion that has flattened over the years, so you sit on support again instead of sinking toward the frame. Like any new cushion it feels firm at first and gives a little with use, while keeping its supportive shape through long work days.
