Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I have a side activated or top activated cylinder?
Disconnect the cylinder from the chair and inspect the top before purchasing. The side activated version has a metal plate on the top that triggers from the side. The top activated version is triggered by a button on the very top.
Do I need to remove the seat to install the side activated cylinder?
No. Unlike the top activated version, you can replace the side activated cylinder without removing the seat. You simply use a pipe wrench to twist and disconnect the old cylinder from the chair mechanism, then knock it out of the base.
How do I install the new side activated cylinder?
Once the old cylinder is removed, drop the new cylinder into the base. Make sure the side activation plate is facing inward toward the center of the mechanism. Then, place the chair top over the cylinder and sit on it to lock it in place.
Why is my Steelcase Leap V2 chair sinking or not holding its height?
Over time, the internal seals of a gas cylinder wear out and lose pressure. This causes the chair to sink when you sit on it. Replacing the worn out shock with our heavy duty side activated cylinder will completely fix this issue.
