Why asymmetric lumbar matters
Very few backs are perfectly even, especially after years at a desk with a mouse on one side. The Zody lets you firm up one side of your lower back without over-supporting the other, something single-pad lumbar systems cannot do. It is also Cradle to Cradle Bronze and GREENGUARD Gold certified, a good fit for anyone who cares about what goes into a chair as well as how it sits.

Haworth Zody price: refurbished vs new
A genuine Haworth Zody with asymmetric lumbar, for under $400.
Made in the USA and renewed here with new seat fabric in seven colors, arm pads, cylinder and casters, it keeps the left-and-right lumbar adjustment few chairs offer, for a fraction of Haworth's new price. You save big and still get premium quality.
Assemble your Zody, then see what it can do
Getting the most from your Zody's controls
The award-winning Zody is one of the most highly adjustable chairs ever designed, and a few of its controls work differently from other chairs. These are the notes our technicians give every customer.
Before you fit the back
Keep the zip ties on the Zody's yokes until the backrest is fully installed. Cutting them early can throw the back out of alignment.
Seat depth
The range is generous, but the tab is unusual: instead of pushing it up or down, grab it and pull it outward to unlock, then slide the seat forward or back.
Asymmetric lumbar
Haworth's patented asymmetric lumbar is the Zody's signature. Set the lumbar height first, then firm up each side separately. Many people who use a mouse all day want a little more support on one side.
Tilt tension
The tension control works like a crank and is very responsive: crank it forward to tighten and backward to loosen, a few turns at a time.
Tilt lock (back stop)
Even with the tilt locked, the Zody intentionally allows about 3 to 4 degrees of movement. That is by design, to keep a natural feel rather than a completely rigid back, not a fault.
Forward tilt
Use it when you lean in to write or type closely: the seat angles slightly forward so your hips stay open. It encourages active sitting.
Haworth Zody colors: seven seat fabrics, one black mesh back
The color you pick is the seat: we reupholster it in new fabric during the renewal. The mesh back, arms and base stay black on every option.
Haworth Zody reviews from verified buyers
Three verified buyers of this chair, including a four-star review, in their own words:
Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 18 customers
“I normally wouldn't have been able to afford a chair of this quality for my office but this site made it possible.”
“The chair we ordered arrived promptly and was reasonably-priced. It did arrive with some cosmetic damages from shipping, but the customer service team responded immediately, after hours, and shipped us new parts to replace the damaged ones.”
“Chair arrived with slight damage to the arm, but customer service quickly sent a replacement arm. I only deducted one star because there were no instructions included on how to assemble the chair...”
Quotes are verbatim excerpts in the reviewer's own words; "..." marks a cut.
Two of these buyers had shipping damage, and both got replacement parts sent right away. If your box has no printed instructions, the unboxing and installation video above walks through the whole assembly.
Your Haworth Zody questions, answered
Where is the Haworth Zody made?
Proudly in the USA: Haworth makes the Zody in Bruce, Mississippi. It is a high-quality Made in the USA chair, built with the precision behind its exceptional durability and workmanship, and we renew it here in Ohio.
Are the arms fully adjustable?
Yes. The fully loaded Zody Classic has 4D arms: they move up and down, side to side, forward and back, and pivot. If the pads are worn, we sell Zody arm pads too.
Is the Zody a good executive chair?
Yes. Its clean shape and mesh back look at home in an executive office, and it has the adjustments of a serious task chair. Haworth developed it with over 20 years of ergonomic studies, and it is designed to align your pelvis and support a natural spinal posture. Its proportions are just right too, so it fits almost any workstation or room layout.
What do you renew on each Zody?
Every Zody gets a new cylinder, soft casters, new arm pads and newly upholstered seat fabric, plus a deep clean and a fresh paint touch-up. We inspect every mechanical system and bring it back to full working order, and the chair carries a 2-year mechanical warranty.
Can I add a headrest?
Yes. We designed an OfficeLogix headrest for the Zody that mounts without tools. If you want both from the start, the Zody and headrest bundle costs less.
Do you ship outside the US?
Yes. Delivery within the contiguous US is on us, and for every other country we look for the best international rate we can get.
Is this the Zody or the Zody II?
This is the original Zody, often called the Zody Classic. Haworth's newer Zody II keeps the patented asymmetric lumbar and 4D arms and adds a more accommodating seat pan, enhanced arms and an optional dual-posture setting for perching at a height-adjustable desk.
