How To Unbox and Assemble The Haworth Zody Chair

In this tutorial, we will walk you through every step of unboxing, assembling, and troubleshooting your Haworth Zody chair. Let's get started and set up your chair for an unmatched ergonomic experience.

Unboxing Your Zody Chair

What is in the Box: Begin by emptying all contents from the box. Depending on the specific version you received, your parts may vary slightly, but generally, you should find the following components:

  • Seat assembly
  • Chair back
  • A small box containing the arms
  • A small envelope containing all necessary tools for a successful installation

Important Packaging Note: Please save the original box and all internal packaging until your return window has officially ended. If you decide to return the chair, we ask that you package the parts and ship them in the same boxes you received to ensure safe transit.

Critical Warning: Keep the zip ties or plastic ropes on the Zody yokes until the backrest is fully installed. Removing them early causes alignment issues, so please wait until the back is completely secure before cutting them.

Step 1: Base and Cylinder Assembly

Preparing the Foundation:

  • If your version requires base assembly, start by pushing the casters firmly into the base.
  • Place the cylinder into the center of the base. If there is a cap on top of the cylinder, remove it now.
  • Flip the seat assembly, insert the gas cylinder into the mechanism, and click it securely into place.

Step 2: Installing the Lumbar Support

Aligning the Plate and Tracks:

  • Take the lumbar support and insert the plate into the bottom correctly. Note: The plate must face the correct way, with the prominent part pointing up. This is very important.
  • While holding the plate so it does not fall, place the back in a horizontal position.
  • Slowly slide the lumbar support into the tracks while pushing it up against the spine. This ensures the lumbar and spine cradle the plate so it does not slide out.
  • Slide it all the way down while continuing to hold the plate in place. Do not let go yet!
  • Once the bolt is threaded into the plate for a few revolutions, you can safely let go.

Step 3: Attaching the Back to the Seat

Securing the Frame:

  • Take the back and place it into the designated area on the seat, then firmly push it into place.
  • Flip the chair into a horizontal position with the back facing up.
  • Take the plate that has the circular gap and curved end. Without removing the plastic ties, slide them out of the way so the circular gap on the plate aligns with the gap on the chair.
  • Insert the curved part into the bottom of the back, between the frame and the padding.
  • To secure the plate, insert the bolt into the aligned gap until it is fully inside the chair. Using the Allen wrench, tighten the bolt securely.
  • Once you have confirmed that the back and all components are correctly positioned and secured, you can finally remove the plastic ties.

Step 4: Installing the Arms

Alignment and Fastening:

  • Ensure the hollow part of the arm is facing down, then insert the arm into place.
  • Since the arm is not yet secured, take the small bolt and insert it into the gap where the arm connects to the bottom of the chair.
  • Tighten it firmly using the provided Allen wrench.
  • Repeat this identical process for the other arm.

Troubleshooting Tips

Lumbar Bolt Will Not Thread:

  • If the bolt fails to thread properly during the lumbar support installation, the internal plate may have become misaligned. Make sure you are holding the plate firmly in place and that the prominent part is pointing up. If it slipped, you will need to reposition it before attempting to thread the bolt again.

Alignment Issues with the Backrest:

  • If you are struggling to align the backrest components, check if the zip ties or plastic ropes were removed prematurely. These ties hold tension on the yokes to make assembly possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are there zip ties on the chair parts?

The zip ties are purposefully placed on the Zody yokes to maintain proper alignment during assembly. You should only remove them after the back is fully secured and bolted into place.

What if my chair already has the arms installed?

Depending on the version of the Zody chair you ordered, the arms may come pre-installed. In this case, you can skip Step 4 and focus primarily on the base, cylinder, and backrest assembly.

Can I throw away the box after assembly?

We highly recommend keeping all packaging until the return window expires. Returns are only accepted if the chair is safely shipped back in its original OfficeLogixShop packaging.

Final Touches

Your Haworth Zody chair from OfficeLogixShop is now fully assembled and ready to go. All that is left to do is adjust the seat height, lumbar support, and armrests to suit your personal ergonomic preferences.
