Steelcase Amia Price: What You Save vs New
A new Amia costs $1,099 on Steelcase's own store. Ours starts at $454, so you keep about $645, or 58%, for the same frame, mechanism and LiveLumbar back.
That lower price is the whole case for buying a Steelcase Amia refurbished: you're paying for the chair, not for the showroom-fresh box. With LiveLumbar, adjustable seat depth and height-adjustable armrests, this restored Amia gives you premium ergonomic performance, and you pay only a fraction of the original price.
Refurbished Steelcase Amia vs new, side by side
| Compared | Renewed Amia from OfficeLogixShop | New Amia from Steelcase |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Under $500 | $1,099 |
| Frame, mechanism, LiveLumbar back | Original Steelcase | Original Steelcase |
| Upholstery | New fabric in 7 colors, or new Black Leather | New |
| Casters | New 3-inch soft-tread | New |
| Gas cylinder and arm pads | New on every chair | New |
| Warranty | 5-year mechanical, from OfficeLogixShop | 12-year multi-shift, from Steelcase |
Compare that with what you give up. The frame is built for durability in daily use, and a new Amia is weight tested to 400 lbs with Steelcase's 12-year multi-shift warranty behind it. The quality is in the frame and the mechanism, and those come with the chair either way.
Steelcase Amia Adjustments Explained
The Amia keeps its controls simple. Everything is a precise manual adjustment you set once and then forget, which is exactly what most people want from a task chair they'll sit in eight hours a day. Good ergonomics comes down to fit, and these six settings cover it.

Seat Height
A lever under the seat raises or lowers it between 16" and 21". Set it so your feet sit flat and your thighs run roughly level with the floor. Lift your weight off the seat to go up; stay seated and pull the lever to come down.
Seat Depth
The seat slides forward and back through a 3-inch range (15½" to 18½"). Taller people pull it forward to support more of the thigh. Shorter people push it back so the edge stops a little short of the knee instead of pressing into it.
Recline Adjustments: Tension and the Upright Back Lock
The Amia uses a synchro-tilt: as you lean backward, the seat and back move together, and the angle between them opens from 100° to 120°. The tension knob gives you manual adjustments for backrest resistance, so leaning back can feel lighter or firmer. The upright back lock holds the backrest straight for typing, or releases it for the full recline range.
LiveLumbar and Adjustable Lumbar Support
This is the Amia's party trick, and you can't see it. LiveLumbar builds a spring force into the lower back that keeps pushing back as you shift around, so the lumbar support moves with you instead of pressing in one fixed spot. That responsive support is what keeps your posture from sagging late in the afternoon.
On top of that, the adjustable lumbar support slides between 6¼" and 10" above the seat, so you can put the firmest point of the back right at your own lower curve.
Adaptive Bolstering
Steelcase gave the Amia adaptive bolstering, hidden comfort technology it was the first chair to feature. Between the flexible edges and adaptive bolstering, the support takes your shape instead of the other way around.
Height-Adjustable Arms vs Fully Adjustable Arms
The armrests go up and down through a 4-inch range: press the button under the outside of the arm cap, slide, and let go to lock. That's it, and for a lot of people it's enough. Set them just under your elbows with your shoulders relaxed. If you want fully adjustable arms that also move in width, depth and pivot, look at the Leap V2 (see the comparison in the FAQ).
Flexible Seat Edge and Seat Ergonomics
Lean forward or cross your legs and the seat's front edge flexes by roughly 1½ inches. Less pressure behind the knees, better circulation over a long day, and nothing to adjust.
Classic Steelcase Amia Chair or Amia Air?
Steelcase makes the Amia with two back options. This chair is the classic Amia: an upholstered back with LiveLumbar and a soft, cushioned feel. The newer Amia Air is a different chair with an Air LiveBack in 3D Microknit. If you've been reading about the Air, keep in mind the look and the back are not the same.
How We Restore Every Amia
OfficeLogixShop has been renewing office chairs since 2015, thousands of them, out of our facility in Lewis Center, Ohio. Every refurbished Steelcase Amia goes through the same four steps.

Full Disassembly and Inspection
We take the chair apart and check the frame, the seat and back, the tilt mechanism and the controls.
Deep Cleaning and Sanitizing
Every part undergoes professional deep cleaning and sanitization for a pristine finish before it goes back together. Steelcase designed the Amia's seat and back cushions to come off and be replaced, which is how every Amia on this page gets new fabric in the color you choose, or new black leather.
New Parts on Every Chair
Every chair rolls out on our new 3-inch soft casters. The soft tread is quiet and kind to hardwood, tile and laminate, and the bigger wheel still rolls easily on carpet. Every chair also gets a new gas cylinder and new arm pads, and any other worn component is replaced with a new compatible part.
Reassembly, Calibration and Testing
Our technicians carefully rebuild the chair, calibrate the mechanisms and quality-test every adjustment to guarantee factory performance, so it's set up to suit most people out of the box.
Reducing Our Environmental Impact
Renewing a chair means the frame, the mechanism and the back get a second working life instead of a trip to the landfill. It's a quiet, practical kind of sustainability: less environmental impact for every office you furnish.
Eight Colors on the Black Frame

Pick Black, Gray, Blue, Green, Red, Tan or Orange fabric, or Black Leather. The Amia's look is clean and understated, and the black frame and base give it a streamlined look, so the color does the talking. Black or Gray blends into a home office; Orange or Red gives a collaboration space some personality. That versatility is a big part of the Amia's appeal. Leather costs a little more than fabric. Want a platinum frame? That's our Steelcase Amia with a platinum frame. If you want brown leather, see the brown leather Steelcase Amia.
Which Steelcase Amia is right for you?
OfficeLogixShop renews the Amia in several versions. They share the LiveLumbar back and the 5-year mechanical warranty; the frame, the upholstery and the height set them apart.
| Amia | Frame and upholstery | Choose it for |
|---|---|---|
| Black frame (this chair) | Black frame; new fabric in 7 colors or new Black Leather | The widest color choice on a streamlined black frame |
| Platinum frame | Platinum frame; new fabric in 7 colors or Black Leather | A lighter frame that brightens a room |
| Blue, platinum frame | Blue fabric on a platinum frame | Blue with a light frame |
| Brown leather, platinum frame | Brown leather, cleaned and conditioned | A warm leather look |
| Amia stool | The Amia at stool height | Counter-height desks |
| Amia and standing desk bundle | Platinum-frame Amia with a bamboo-top motorized standing desk | Setting up a whole workstation at once |
Steelcase Amia Ergonomic Task Chair Reviews
Here's what buyers of this chair have written in their reviews on this page:
Rated 5.0 out of 5 by 8 customers
"The Steelcase Amia chair is a sturdy and comfortable chair with good back support. This will be the third one I have purchased for myself and family members."
"Good condition. New wheels. Very comfortable."
"The chair is nice and was easy to put together. I wish the seat was a little more cushioned..."
"The condition is good at this price."
Quotes are verbatim excerpts in the reviewer's own words; "..." marks a cut.

That last point about cushioning is fair: the Amia seat is supportive rather than plush, which many people prefer for all-day comfort.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Steelcase Amia Task Chair
Who is the Steelcase Amia best for?
Anyone at a desk most of the day who wants proper lumbar support without a page of settings to learn. Steelcase itself pitches the Amia as a good ergonomic chair at a value price point. It suits home offices, open-plan teams and anyone who likes a cushioned, traditional look over mesh. If you want to tune every angle, the Leap V2 is the better fit; if you want to sit down and get to work, the Amia is. Working at a counter-height desk? The Steelcase Amia stool is built for that.
Refurbished vs new Steelcase Amia: what's the difference?
The chair is the same Steelcase Amia. A new one costs $1,099 from Steelcase and carries Steelcase's 12-year warranty. A renewed one from us costs under $500, gets a new gas cylinder, arm pads, casters and upholstery, is tested by our technicians and carries our 5-year mechanical warranty.
Amia vs Leap V2: which should I buy?
Both are Steelcase and both carry our 5-year mechanical warranty. The Amia has LiveLumbar, adjustable lumbar support and height-adjustable arms. The Leap V2 swaps in a LiveBack, where the whole backrest changes shape with your spine, plus 4D arms that move in height, width, depth and pivot. It also costs more. Choose the Leap if you like fine-tuning; choose the Amia for strong back support at a lower price. For a longer side-by-side, read our Amia vs Gesture vs Leap V2 comparison.
What does renewed or refurbished Steelcase Amia mean?
It means a genuine Steelcase Amia that we've taken apart, inspected, deep-cleaned and rebuilt with a new gas cylinder, arm pads, casters and upholstery, then calibrated and tested. It's not a copy or a lookalike: the frame, the mechanism and the LiveLumbar back are original Steelcase.
What parts are replaced during the renewal process?
Every chair gets new upholstery (fabric in the color you pick, or black leather), a new gas cylinder, new arm pads and new 3-inch soft casters. Anything else that fails inspection is replaced too.
What is the weight capacity of the Steelcase Amia?
Up to 400 lbs. That's Steelcase's rating for the Amia chair, and our renewed Amia carries the same 400 lb capacity.
Are the Amia's manual adjustments easy to use?
Yes. Seat height, seat depth, recline tension, lumbar and arm height each have one simple control. Most people set them once in a couple of minutes and never touch them again.
Does the Steelcase Amia have a headrest?
No. Steelcase doesn't make a headrest for the Amia. If neck support matters to you, look at the Steelcase Leap V2 with our headrest instead.
How long will a refurbished Steelcase Amia last?
Steelcase weight tests the Amia to 400 lbs and backs new ones for 12 years of multi-shift use, so the frame and mechanism are built for the long haul. What wears out first are the cylinder, casters, arm pads and fabric, which are exactly the parts we replace on every chair. If something does wear later, the Amia's seat and back cushions are made to be replaced, and we stock exact-fit Amia parts like the gas cylinder and arm pads.
Does OfficeLogixShop include a warranty?
Yes. Every renewed Amia comes with our 5-year mechanical warranty.
Does the Steelcase Amia suit home offices as well as corporate teams?
Yes. The clean shape fits a spare-room desk as easily as an open office, and for teams we offer bulk pricing and, in Ohio, on-site setup.
