Frequently Asked Questions
How do I remove the old cylinder from my Steelcase Amia?
Flip the chair over and use a pipe wrench to loosen the cylinder counterclockwise. Be very careful not to lean your body weight on the tension control knob or you might break it. Once loose, use a rubber mallet to tap the cylinder out of the base.
Why does my chair sink on its own after installing the new cylinder?
If your chair is sinking by itself, the cylinder pin is overactivated. You will need to loosen the set screw located either on the top or bottom of the mechanism depending on your version.
Do I need to remove the seat to replace the Amia cylinder?
You only need to remove the seat if your set screw is located on the top of the mechanism and needs adjusting. To remove it, use a screwdriver that is at least 14 inches long to press the seat lock button underneath on the left side.
What if the height adjustment lever is completely unresponsive?
If the lever does not work at all, the cylinder is underactivated. You need to tighten the set screw inside the mechanism so it properly presses the top button on the new cylinder.
