The V1 is the original Leap, made from 1999 to 2006: the same LiveBack idea and 400 lb rating, with 3-way arms instead of the V2's 4D arms. If you want every adjustment, choose the V2. If you are on a budget and want a genuine Steelcase Leap, this V1 is the one to get.

Steelcase Leap V1 Adjustments, Control by Control
The original Leap already had the LiveBack idea: the backrest flexes to follow your spine as you move. These are the controls that tune it to you.
Seat height and seat depth
Set the height so your feet rest flat, then slide the seat until there is a small gap between its edge and the back of your knees.
Seat edge control
A dial unique to the V1 sets how far the front edge of the seat slopes down, to relieve pressure behind the knees.
Lower back firmness
A knob by the lower back adds or eases the pressure against your lumbar curve.
Upper back force
This knob sets how hard you have to push to lean back, whatever your size.
Back stop
Limit how far the back reclines in several positions, including an upright lock for focused typing.
Arms
The arms move up and down, in and out, and pivot. They do not slide forward and back; that came with the V2.

Yes. This listing is the original Leap V1, with its 3-way arms, steel base and seat edge dial. If you want the newer model, see our renewed Leap V2.
How much weight does the Leap V1 hold?
It is rated for up to 400 lbs.
Do the arms slide forward and back?
No. The V1's arms adjust in height and width and pivot, but they have no front-to-back slide. If that matters to you, the Leap V2's 4D arms add it.
What is new on this chair?
The black fabric, the foam under it, the gas cylinder, the casters and the arm pads. The frame, the base and the mechanism are the original Steelcase parts, cleaned, inspected and tested.
What warranty does it have?
