OfficeLogixShop Steelcase Leap V2 Headrest First Improvement - Office Logix Shop

Yaman Homad Sultan |

Update: It is officially 2026, and our custom headrest design has been fully perfected! All of the mechanical improvements mentioned below, including the silicone-coated hooks, are now standard on every single order. If you are an original early adopter looking for the retrofit installation guide, you will still find all those helpful details below.

We want to extend a massive thank you to everyone who served as leading pioneers in our Steelcase Leap V2 headrest project. Your real-world feedback has been absolutely invaluable to our engineering team. We are deeply committed to continuous product improvement, ensuring our heavy-duty office furniture accessories always deliver the ultimate posture support, even well after their initial release.

Addressing Early Adopter Feedback

Many of our fantastic early adopters highlighted a minor friction issue with the metal braces sliding between the seat back and the fabric. During certain aggressive seating movements, the bare metal was not holding the premium ergonomic desk chair accessory as securely as we wanted. Specifically, pushing the chair forward abruptly or making exaggerated upward stretching motions would sometimes cause the mounting hooks to slide loose. This meant users had to pause their workflow to reinsert the hooks, which was an unnecessary inconvenience.

Our Solution: Silicone-Coated Hooks

After running extensive mechanical testing in our facility, we discovered that the high-quality, ultra-smooth metal used for the mounting braces simply did not provide enough natural friction against the chair's internal plastic. The absolute best solution we engineered is adding a specialized silicone rubber coating directly to the ends of the hooks. This simple but highly effective addition has dramatically improved the mounting performance.

Key Benefits of the Design Upgrade

  • Increased Friction: The silicone coating ensures that even with aggressive physical movements in any direction, whether forward, backward, or upward, the mounting hooks and braces remain firmly locked into place.
  • Non-Abrasive Protection: The soft silicone tips are incredibly gentle on the internal back plate of the chair, preventing any accidental plastic scratching or structural damage while ensuring a permanent, firm grip.

Retrofit Installation Guide

For those who received their headrests during our initial pre-order phase, here is a quick and easy guide to installing the new silicone covers we sent out:

  • Receiving the Covers: The silicone covers measure about half an inch in size and will arrive in a standard envelope. Please be careful when opening your mail, as the covers are quite small and might be either black or clear depending on the batch.

Preparation:

  • Carefully unhook the metal hooks from the brace housing on the back of your headrest.
  • Firmly slip the first silicone cover over the bare metal hook. This might require a little bit of wiggling due to the tight tolerance and increased friction.
  • Repeat this exact process for the second hook.

Heat-Shrinking:

  • Use a standard heat gun or a household blow dryer on the lowest heat setting to actively shrink the silicone covers. This forces them to conform tightly to the exact shape of the metal hooks.
  • The shrinking process takes about 30 seconds with a dedicated heat gun and slightly longer with a standard blow dryer. Check the covers every few seconds to ensure they are shrinking evenly without overheating.

Reinstallation:

  • Once the metal and silicone have completely cooled to the touch, reinsert the braces into the back of your chair.
  • The newly coated hooks will now provide a vastly higher level of friction, permanently preventing any unwanted slipping or movement.

Future Leap V2 Headrest Orders

All future orders, including backorders, will have these silicone tips professionally pre-installed on the brace hooks straight from our factory. We will continue to update our community on any further mechanical improvements and eagerly ship out components that enhance your headrest's functionality. This strict commitment to continuous improvement applies to all of our products, ensuring you always have the absolute best ergonomic experience possible.

Thank you once again for your immense support and highly constructive feedback. We are incredibly excited to bring you these mechanical enhancements and look forward to your continued satisfaction with our custom seating solutions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did OfficeLogixShop add silicone covers to the Leap V2 headrest hooks?

During initial user testing, we found that the smooth metal mounting hooks occasionally slipped when users made exaggerated movements. We engineered custom heat-shrink silicone covers to vastly increase the friction grip, ensuring the headrest stays firmly locked in place all day.

Do new orders of the Leap V2 headrest include the silicone covers?

Yes. All current orders of our custom Steelcase Leap V2 headrest come with the silicone tips professionally pre-installed at our factory, so the unit is completely ready to mount the moment you take it out of the box.

How do I install the silicone covers on my older Leap V2 headrest?

Simply slide the silicone covers over the bare metal mounting hooks, then use a heat gun or a household hair dryer on a low setting for about 30 seconds. The heat will shrink the silicone tightly around the metal, creating a permanent, high-friction grip.

Will the silicone tips damage the back of my Steelcase Leap V2 chair?

Not at all. The silicone tips are incredibly soft and non-abrasive. They are specifically designed to protect the internal plastic back plate of your chair from scratches while providing a secure, wobble-free hold.
