Exploring the Herman Miller Embody Headrest by OfficeLogixShop: Review and Installation
As we all navigate the modern work-from-home reality, one question remains universal - is your chair truly comfortable? After all, an office chair is not just a seat; it's an essential component of your overall work performance and health. But how about the Embody chair, a renowned offering from Herman Miller - does it come with a headrest? The answer is no, it doesn't. However, with the introduction of the Herman Miller Embody Headrest by OfficeLogixShop, the game has changed significantly.
The new Herman Miller Embody Headrest by OfficeLogixShop is an embodiment of ergonomic design. It's an aftermarket addition, meaning you can indeed add a headrest to a Herman Miller chair. This headrest brings an unprecedented level of comfort to your workspace, providing excellent support to your neck and head, reducing fatigue and improving your focus.
Now, you might be wondering, "Is it better to have a chair with a headrest?" Well, in terms of ergonomics and comfort, the answer is a resounding yes. The inclusion of a headrest significantly reduces the strain on your neck and shoulders, particularly beneficial if you're spending long hours in your chair.
"But are chairs without headrests bad?" you might ask. Not necessarily. This largely boils down to personal preference. Some people find that they can work comfortably without a headrest. However, if you're looking for the full ergonomic experience that reduces potential physical strain during long working hours, a headrest is a must-have accessory.
One of the most outstanding features of this headrest is its tool-less installation. You don't need a single tool to set it up. No more hunting for screwdrivers or hammers. Just a few minutes of your time, and you're good to go. And the fun doesn't stop there.
The Embody headrest also allows you to swap its colors using special inserts. So, if you're someone who loves to keep things fresh, or simply wants their chair to match their mood or workspace, this feature will be a delight.

Congratulations on receiving your Embody Chair Headrest by OfficeLogixShop! Let's dive right in and open up this package that's likely arrived at your doorstep via FedEx or UPS, and set you up for a whole new level of comfort.
The first thing you'll see as you open the box is a set of instructions spanning two pages.
Not a fan of reading instructions? No problem, there's a QR code on the second page that'll take you to the Embody Headrest Installation Guide video, hopefully as helpful as this walkthrough we're sharing with you right now. Put these instructions aside—you might need them later if you plan on removing and reinstalling the headrest.
As we delve further into the box, you'll uncover some key parts. First off, you'll find the foam-sleeved top of the headrest—the most vital and comfortable part of this whole setup.
Alongside it is a spine component, also covered in a protective sleeve. This spine features the tool-less screws and bolts we're especially proud of—you won't be needing any Allen keys or the like to put this together.
Don't be alarmed if you find the spine missing a metal gear on its inside left face—it might have just slipped off during transit and ended up in the bag. If that's the case, a gentle shake of the bag should bring it out. Simply align it and slot it back into the spine—it's not glued, so it's an easy one-second fix.
There's also a protective film included in the package for the installation process to ensure you don't scratch the spine's back.
And here's a tip: as you remove the setup from the bag, you might find the bolt loose. If it's not immediately visible, sift through the bag and you'll find it—it's crucial for maintaining the tension bolt. And finally, the cherry on top—or, in this case, the cover that goes on top of it all!
Installation
Let's move these aside and start with the protective film. Don't worry, it's not a sticker, so there's no chance of a grimy residue mess on your spine. Wrap this film around right below the Herman Miller logo where the 'antler' stops. Start from the back and wrap it tightly—it doesn't need to be perfect, as this is a temporary protective film you can discard post-installation.
With the film in place, it's time to install the spine. Notice the rubber hook? That's our response to community feedback concerned about friction at the chair top. The color-matched silicone hook is soft, easy to clean, durable, and won't affect your chair.
Next, remove the bolt securing the vertical backstopper. This little piece keeps your spine from sliding up and down. Once it's out, gently push the two prongs at the bottom outwards and slide down the stopper—simple.
Let's hook the top now. Align it centered with the Herman Miller logo, and loop the tag through our tag and logo hole—another design feature we're proud of, thanks to community feedback.
Push the two bottom prongs outwards and push the whole spine in—it'll click into place, hence the need for the protective film.
Secure the spine with the vertical stopper. Here's a pro tip: Ensure the stopper faces outwards, towards the back. Apply a gentle downward pressure on the spine and slip the stopper behind the antler. Listen for two clicks, one on each side. Hold on to the stopper, align its holes with the spine's, and thread the bolt through.
Tighten the bolt until it stops—your spine isn't going anywhere now.
Next up is our favorite part—the cushion. You'll need two components: the cushion part and the knob rod. Align the cushion over the spine and align this part with the vertical slot on the headrest cushion's right side (when the chair faces away from you). Secure it with the rod.
Now let's set up the headrest tension and angle. Align the four notches on the metal gear with the headrest's four notches, and push it through the rod.
Make sure the nut is on the cap's end to secure the rod and adjust tension.
Align the cap's notches, wiggle it in, and start tightening until you feel some resistance.
And there you have it! Your headrest is fully assembled and ready for adjustments. Enjoy!
Adjustment
Now that your headrest is fully assembled, it's time to fine-tune it to your liking. First off, you'll want to stop the headrest from flopping. Loosen it up, align it so it's vertically aligned with the chair's back, and tighten it.
Next, adjust the pivot part—the upper component—and set it to your expected height.
Once that's done, give it a test. Sit down, lean back, see how it feels. You might find you need to make a few more adjustments. Perhaps it needs to be a little higher, a little lower, or angled differently. And remember, your ideal position might change based on what you're doing. If you're working, you might prefer a more upright posture, while for gaming, movie-watching, or kicking back during a meeting, a different angle could be more comfortable.
That's the beauty of this headrest: it adjusts to you, not the other way around. So, feel free to tweak the pivot while you're sitting down. Loosen the knobs to adjust the height, and when it feels just right, lock it in with the same knobs.
