Welcome to this Steelcase Leap V2 unboxing and installation guide. In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through every step of setting up your Leap V2 chair quickly and easily. Let’s get started.
Unboxing Your Leap V2 Chair
What’s in the Box
- Base of the chair
- Envelope containing the gas cylinder and casters
- Seat and back pre-attached
Step 1: Installing the Casters and Cylinder
Flipping the Base
Turn the base upside down to prepare for caster installation.
Attaching the Casters
Open the envelope and take out the casters. Click each caster firmly into the five slots on the base.
Flipping the Base Upright
Once all five casters are installed, flip the base back to its upright position.
Inserting the Cylinder
Take out the cylinder from the envelope. Your chair may come with one of two cylinder types:
- Top Activated Cylinder with a button on top
- Side Activated Cylinder with a metal plate on the side
To identify yours, remove the cap from the cylinder and check the top.
Step 2: Installing the Seat Assembly
Side Activated Cylinder Setup
- Insert the cylinder into the center of the base.
- Remove the seat and back assembly from the box.
- Look underneath the mechanism and locate the moving metal plate. This moves when the height lever is pulled.
- Carefully align the cylinder with that plate as you lower the seat onto the base.
- Pull the height adjustment lever to test. If the chair moves up and down correctly, installation is complete.
- If it does not respond, realign and try again.
Top Activated Cylinder Setup
- Insert the cylinder into the base as usual.
- Place the seat and back assembly directly on top of the cylinder.
- If the chair height rises or sinks automatically when you sit, it may need recalibration. This is common and easy to fix.
If Recalibration Is Needed
Identifying Overactivation
If the chair is unstable in height, recalibration is needed due to weight sensitivity.
Accessing the Mechanism
- Lay the chair gently on its side.
- Ensure the seat is fully slid backward.
- Use a long flathead screwdriver, ideally over 20 inches, to reach underneath the seat and press the stopper tab.
- This allows you to slide the seat out and reach the cylinder socket.
Adjusting the Height Pin
- Locate the small hole where the cylinder sits.
- Insert an Allen wrench and adjust the pin inside.
- Test the height lever after each turn until movement feels stable and responsive.
Sliding the Seat Back In
Align the seat rails precisely before sliding the seat back into position. If the seat does not slide, the rails are likely misaligned.
