Welcome to another quick and easy tutorial from OfficeLogixShop
In this guide, we’ll walk you through the easiest way to remove and reinstall the arms on your Herman Miller Embody chair. Whether you’re replacing a damaged arm or adjusting for comfort, this step-by-step process will help you get the job done safely and efficiently.
Tools Needed
- Manual Phillips screwdriver
- Power drill (optional, for removal only, not recommended for reinstalling)
Step 1: Start with the Bottom Bolt
Using a manual screwdriver, slightly loosen the bottom bolt on the arm. Do not remove it completely as this makes the top bolt easier to work with.
Step 2: Loosen the Top Bolt
Now move to the top bolt and begin loosening it. If it feels tight, gently push the arm inward as you turn. This relieves pressure and makes loosening easier.
Step 3: Alternate Between the Two Bolts
Continue switching between the top and bottom bolts, gradually loosening both. Once loose, you can finish removing them with a screwdriver or switch to a drill if preferred. When both bolts are out, the arm will detach from the chair.
Step 4: Line Up the Arm
Align the bolt holes on the arm with the matching holes on the chair frame. Insert both bolts into place without fully tightening.
Step 5: Adjust for the Lever
The bottom bolt may be hard to reach due to the adjustment lever. Push the arm inward to get better access. You can use a long screwdriver or your hand to start threading the bolt manually.
Step 6: Tighten the Bolts Carefully
Tighten the top bolt slightly, keeping the arm pressed inward. Then fully tighten the bottom bolt using the screwdriver. Finally, go back and finish tightening the top bolt. Avoid using a drill for tightening to prevent stripping the bolts.
Removing the Left Arm?
The left arm uses the same process, but it's a little trickier due to the lever placement. Start with the bottom bolt, using an angled screwdriver to avoid hitting the lever. Then move on to the top bolt, and once loose, you can even finish removing the bolts by hand.
Final Check
Make sure both bolts are tight and the arm is firmly secured. Give the arm a gentle wiggle to confirm there’s no movement.
And that’s it. You've successfully removed and reinstalled the arms on your Embody chair. It might seem tricky at first, but with this guide, it’s a smooth and straightforward task.
This guide can also be used for the Herman Miller Embody Gaming Style version.
