Welcome to this OfficeLogixShop tutorial, where we'll guide you through replacing the height adjustment mechanism on your Herman Miller Aeron Classic chair. This key component ensures your chair can adjust to your preferred height, providing optimal comfort and support. Let's get started.
Tools Needed:
- Screwdriver or Hex Key
- Height Adjustment Mechanism
Steps for Replacement:
Remove the Seat and Mechanism Cover:
- Begin by unscrewing the seat bolts on both sides of the chair.
- Proceed to remove the bolts holding the mechanism cover to expose the height adjustment mechanism.
Detach the Height Adjustment Cable:
- Locate the height adjustment cable connected to the right arm yolk (the side with one knob).
- Note: The back of the chair does not need to be removed for this operation. It's removed in our demonstration for clarity.
Remove the Old Mechanism:
- Depending on your knob type, remove it carefully to avoid damage. Newer knobs snap out easily, while older ones may require a gentle approach.
- Unscrew and remove the height adjustment mechanism from the chair.
Install the New Mechanism:
- Position the new mechanism and secure it with screws to both the chair and the arm.
- If the chair adjusts height without input, balance the pin on the mechanism by tightening it incrementally until it stabilizes.
Reassemble the Chair:
- Reattach the seat mechanism cover, ensuring to match the teeth version (two or four) with its slots for a snug fit.
- Snap the knob back into place.
- Reinsert the seat, attaching the seat links to the mechanism cover, and secure all bolts.
